Both formats work. The data on telehealth efficacy for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and most common presentations is strong. The right choice is the one that fits your life and your nervous system.
What telehealth is good for
Geographic flexibility. No commute. Easier scheduling around work and caregiving. Access to specialists who do not practice in your county. The ability to be in your own space, which can make harder topics easier to bring forward.
What in-person is good for
Deeper somatic and body-based work that benefits from a shared physical space. Clients who find screens dysregulating. Crisis or stabilization work that benefits from physical proximity. Clients with no reliable private space at home.
How to know which fits you
If you have a private, reliable, quiet space and steady internet, telehealth probably works. If you would have to take the session in your car or whisper from a closet, that is a sign you need either a different format or a different clinician.
Vibrant You Counseling is virtual telehealth across New York State.
