Intersectionality

Definition

Intersectionality, as introduced by Kimberlé Crenshaw, describes the way different dimensions of identity (race, gender, class, sexuality, ability, more) intersect and shape a person's experience in ways that single-axis analysis cannot capture. Intersectional practice attends to the whole person, not one dimension at a time.

Clinical Context

Originally a legal-theory concept, intersectionality has become a core frame in affirming clinical practice. The frame matters for diagnosis, for treatment, and for clinician self-awareness about what gets missed when only one axis is in view.

How This Shows Up in Our Work

Our practice is intersectional in posture. Identity is not flattened; the way race, gender, class, sexuality, neurology, ability, and faith intersect is part of the context the work engages with.
