Sliding Scale Fees
Definition
A sliding scale fee is a reduced session fee offered to clients for whom the standard fee is a barrier to care. Sliding scales vary by practice; they are typically based on household income or specific financial circumstances.
Clinical Context
Sliding scale slots are usually limited (a private practice can sustainably offer a small number of reduced-fee slots without the practice itself becoming non-viable). Asking about a sliding scale is not impolite. Most clinicians who offer one expect to be asked.
How This Shows Up in Our Work
Vibrant You Counseling offers a limited sliding scale. The conversation happens during the consultation. Cost should be a real conversation, not an unspoken obstacle.
